Colonial Dancing

One afternoon we decided to try our hand at colonial dancing. My mom and our two dashing dance partners learned two dances. It was a fun time. Glad I did it.

Headband

Here is to another giveaway. This one is great for me because I have such long hair. It is a headband giveaway. I have had long hair for most of my life. I occanisonally cut it, hate it, then grow it back out again. The problem with having such long hair, my is just above my waist, is it just hangs there.

Photobucket

One of my pet peeves are women and children who have long beautiful hair and pull it back everyday in a ponytail. Sometimes it can be done elegant and with a classic look but most the time it is just a daily drab look.

Even worse is when they tie their hair back in a wadded rats nest looking creation on the back of their head. Dreadful.

Now I am not saying that I never do either. Especially with a baby in the house that can manage to get his fingers, toes, and toys caught in my hair I have to pull it back often. With it so long when I clean or cook I pull it back it keep it out of the way.

I love to dress up my hair and do have all sorts of headbands and clips. But can you ever have to many? I like to curl my hair and with its weight it pulls them down to soft romantic curls. Here is one of me and boys with a slight curl.

Photobucket

At this time I had light brown hair with a ton of golden highlights. Then one day in February I had it dyed a deep dark brown. I never had such dark hair. It shocked me every time I looked in the mirror.

Photobucket

It grew on me though. I thought it was sultry. I even tried to look sexy.

Photobucket

I can't believe how dark it was. It was now for the most part washed out. I am left with a medium brown needing something to be done with it.

Summer Wind is having a sweet give away for a headband and key chain.

Photobucket

They are both so cute. Even if I don't win I think I might just have to get some new hair accessories anyways.

Lucky Charms

Guess what my husband found at the grocery store today?

Photobucket

Bags of the lucky charms marshmallows with out the hassle of the cereal! Score! These heavenly bags of delicious goodness did not last long.

Follow Friday

Another Friday so I am joining Follow Friday again. Check out my blog and be sure to check out the other wonderful blogs! Welcome.

A day at t he park

On another hot day we went to the park.

Photobucket

It would have been great, but it was so hot.

Photobucket

So hot you really could not play.

Photobucket

The children tried but most the toys were to hot to touch.

Photobucket

We quickly gave up and found a swing in the shade.

Photobucket

The kids soon begged "Mom lets go swimming".

Photobucket

I agreed.

5 pools to choose from

Every day was SO hot there. The humidity was high, the first few days we had thunderstorms each afternoon. It was not your upper 80's or even 90 degree heat. This heat was HOT. I am talking about every day above 100 degrees. It topped out one day at 109.

What do you do on days like this? We went to the pool and found refuge in the water. The warm 80+ degree water. I don't know how everyone else got in the hot tubs I found them to hot in this heat. At 80+ degree the pools were very warm.

Photobucket

There were 4 outdoor pools, 1 indoor pool, 4 hot tubs, a waterfall, and a fountain pool that had 3 water drops out of it.

Photobucket

Smiley and Evan played in the baby pool. It was a foot deep and very chlorinated. They had fun But they eventually grew tired of it.

Photobucket

Photobucket

There was a pool that went to 4 feet deep that we sent the majority of our time in. It had a waterfall that ran in to it and the three water drops with a seat under it coming from the fountain pool.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Everyone enjoyed playing in that water. The big boys let it run on top of their head and Smiley would stand on the seat and stick his fingers in it.

The pool was nice because we were not very nervous about the big boys in it. For the most part the big boys could just stand in it. Where they could not stand there was always a ledge, latter or seat near by they could quickly swim to. With it not being to big you could easily find where abouts in it they were.

The big pool was Gregory's favorite. It was larger and deeper so he could jump in the deep end, 5 feet, and swim all over with out his bubble. Yeah Gregory!

Photobucket

Evan enjoyed playing catch in this pool. Of course it was catch him.

There was also an adult pool, no kids allowed! We did not get to go in there but I heard it was nice.

The indoor pool my mom and I used everyday for water aerobics. That was a nice easy exercise to start your day. Both of us are looking to continue it. The boys so desperately wanted to swim in there eventually we took them. The had a blast. They grabbed their noodles and swam for hours.

With such warm temperatures there was no need to swim indoors even at night the outdoor pools were still warm. One evening that it did not thunderstorm we enjoyed an evening of swimming and watching a movies they had playing on a big poolside screen.

Photobucket

Thank God for the pools to beat the heat. We were in them every day but one and that was a special day and we still got wet!

Family Pictures

It is unusual for us to have a picture that has all 5 of us in it. Either Jay or I are taking the picture and one of us is missing or we are doing a famed self portrait of who ever has the camera and whoever else jumps in. So this is a rarity. A picture of all 5 of us! And it did not come out to bad.

Photobucket

If only the kids were looking.

I took a few of my mom and dad too. As soon as Evan saw I was taking a picture he had to jump in. It's okay he is a cutie.

Photobucket

At sunset one even we were walking back from swimming and there was a beautiful sunset. I tried to capture it over the pond the earlier two photos were took. I wish the colors of the sky wold have shown as brilliant as they were there.

Photobucket

Here are the grandsons with their grand parents. Lastly a mess of me and my dad with the kids ready to be done with having their picture took.

Geese

On the plantation the are many ponds with nice water fountains in all. The water fountains are not the only thing you will find in the ponds. We saw turtles, fish, a lonely swan, but mostly geese.

Photobucket

Photobucket

There were not the friendliest geese, they were hungry geese. We had a pack of corn tortillas and who would have thought but all the animals loved them.

Photobucket

They ate them quicker than we could through them the pieces. They even got aggressive. There were so many and when they started swarming you it made me a bit nervous. What would I do if one of them snapped at the boys or baby. Would it hurt them? It would at definitely scare them.

Photobucket

We finished feeding them quickly and walked away. And were followed. Then we saw the sign. Oops.

The Historic Powhantan Plantation

We stayed at one of the most beautiful resorts, the Historic Powhatan Plantation.

Photobucket

Photobucket

It is a spectacular plantation, one I wish I lived in. The Powhatan Manor House is of historic and architectural importance. Part of a Royal Grant made by England's King Charles I, to Richard Eggleston in 1643, the Plantation is called after the local Indian tribe's great ancestral Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas' father.

Photobucket

Built as a fortress in fear of Indian raids, the exterior walls are 26 inches thick at the basement level, 22"-20' at the first floor and 20"-18" at the second floor.

Little is known about the plantation since all records were burned in the James City County court records during the Civil War, as was the interior structure of the house in 1862, under the direction of General George B. McClellan's Union Army. There is a cannon ball lodged into one of the two massive, 60' high "T" shaped chimney stacks.

Photobucket

As beautiful as the mansion the gardens, ponds, and out buildings accompany it perfectly.

This week the daytime temperature never dropped below 100 degrees. The above picture is one of the outdoor kitchen. Very practical. It is now a fine dining restaurant.

However nice it would be to have a house like that where we stayed was wonderful too.

Photobucket

It was our own little house with a hot tub. It worked just fine. It slept all seven of us and gave us a home for the week.

I have been coming here since I was kid myself. Williamsburg is not new to me or my parents, but it was the first time here for my family. It is now a place they love too and will always remember.

We took a vacation to Williamburg, Virgina

We are back. It was so nice to get away for a little bit. With every trip comes the inevitable packing, unpacking, repacking and then the pile of suitcases and laundry they lay in a pile a your house for the next day after returning.

My little helper and me spent two days packing.

Photobucket

We loaded up the car and then we were off on our way to our Williamsburg, Virginia, vacation.

Photobucket

It is about half a days drive from 14 Fir Street. Not to bad. Epically for the boys who can relax, take a nap, or watch a few DVD's. As soon as Gregory is old enough he is going to take over the driving and Dad and I can watch a few movies. We have got quite a few years till that happens.

Photobucket

We did have a late start and then hit a few hours of traffic. In the end our 5 hour drive was a little over 7. This put us there in the evening. We pulled up jumped out of the packed car. Jay and I ready to stretch our legs and the littles ready to relax even more. A hot tub did the trick.

Photobucket

Tired from the drive ready to start our vacation. Tomorrow we will have some fun.
