Celebration of Life

One more item off the birthday checklist done.  Today was Evan's Celebration of life at his school.  That is what they do at Montessori schools apposed to the traditional  school birthday party.  They have the birthday child hold the earth and circle around a sun or in our case a classmate sitting as the sun.  The birthday child travels around the sun one time and stops and then talks about that year or shows the class pictures or mementos from that year.  The class sings a different type of birthday song or says the months as they walk around.  This is repeated for each year of their life.

Evan was just so happy.  He had been looking forward to this all week.  Actually they look forward to it all year.  And it is quite an honor if you are chose to be the sun.  Sometimes they ponder over it all week.  He decided on Minal.

I decided on doughnuts for the treat.  It is supposed to be healthy but...  My kids love frosted doughnuts.  Most kids love doughnuts.  And they are not as messy as cupcakes.  So I brought in one huge heavy box of frosted doughnuts in all different colors covered in sprinkles.  We passed on out to all of his 18 classmates.

Another reason I love Montessori are the ratios.  18 kids make up one full class.  They range from grades 1-3. There is always 2 teachers for these kids and often helpers.  I brought with me two extra helpers by request today.  Evan wanted his brother and sister there.  They were so happy to come.  They were more than happy they got doughnuts.  Faith kept crawling around to other kids after she finished hers.  Little beggar.

Evan had a great time.  Everyone loved the treat.  Faith had so much fun she could not even make it home awake.
