Barrel Racing

Do you know what barrel racing is? It is is a rodeo event in which a horse and rider attempt to complete a clover-leaf pattern around preset barrels in the fastest time. Though both boys and girls compete at the youth level and men compete in some amateur venues, in collegiate and professional ranks, it is primarily a rodeo event for women. It combines the horse's athletic ability and the horsemanship skills of a rider in order to safely and successfully maneuver a horse through a clover leaf pattern around three barrels (typically three fifty-five gallon metal or plastic drums) placed in a triangle in the center of an arena.In timed rodeo events, the purpose is to make a run as fast as possible. When we were at the fair they called for a kids turn.  All kids could compete in a barrel race for a chance to win $10 and  a bunch of ice cream.  Sounds good.  There were not that many kids there surprisingly but it sounded like something the boys might like.  So me and the boys ran down to the arena.
  
How were they gonna do this?  Are they putting the kids up on their horses?  Humm...

And then we got the answer it was brother barrel racing!!  It was GREAT!  You stick your brother in the barrel and push him around the other ones.

First up was Gregory.  He was the only one to push 2 brothers around.



He did a great job.  The 2 boys tossed and turned and came out dizzy.  Not to mention they were all filthy.

We watched a bunch of other great competitors.  As we kept watching Gregory wanted a chance to be in the barrel too.  So almost last he went in.  Evan and Smiley worked so hard to push him around the tract.



Well none of them won anything but a shower but they had a lot of fun and I had a great laugh.
