Wednesday December 15th we had our AWANA'S club HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS party! What a bast it was for everyone. There were skits, games, songs, cake, and a lot of excited children. Our AWANAS program is a huge ministry at our church and when we all came together to celebrate Christmas, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we had hundreds of happy holiday spirited souls singing in fun and fellowship.
The teen youth were the leaders of this party. It was their gift to the clubbers. A very well received gift too. We started the evening with the spirit of giving with a little competition thrown in. My boys are up for a competition anytime. They constantly compete against each other but this night was great because the got to compete against the girls. A win is best when they can beat the girls together. The clubbers were asked to bring in food for our food pantry and we would see who could bring in the most, boys or girls. Both of my boys came prepared that brought grocery bags full of 4 boxes of cereal, a box of pasta and 3 cans of food each. They were going to help beat those girls. They lined up the food and the blessing poured the lines stretched down a side and around the corner of the gym. There was so much food. I don't remember who won. The hungry did.
They put on a cute skit and led us in carols. Not even minding 200 kids butcher Rudolph the red nose reindeer with all the childhood add ins.
We played a slew of games. The best one to watch was the kissing game. Ohh. At a brethren church. Exactly it is not what you you think. The children were lined up in relay lines on one side of the gym across from them were the tens and Hershey kisses. They had to run across unwrap the kiss eat it then run back sit and the next would go. Sounds to easy? Yup. The catch was they had to do this with 1 glove on and 1 mitt! It was such a struggle. The children had such a hard time we were all laughing at them. Eventually after they continually struggled the teen would kick a little help in.
Even the adults joined in on the fun. Here are some of the girls from my group that I lead each week. They had no mercy on me in the games. These girls are something else and I love them.
I have never seen 2 and a half hours pass so quickly we were having so much fun.
The kids would have easily stayed all night. And with as hyper as they were most parents would have gladly let them. But that was not even the end of the sweats they had been eating all night. Pastor Jim brought out a cake and we all sang happy birthday.
The cake was delicious, the evening was great. We are so blessed for such a vibrant childrens program and even more blessed for the birthday boy.
